Bengaluru’s civic body, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has announced a ₹19,930 crore budget for 2025-26, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development and tackling the city’s notorious traffic congestion. A key focus is the construction of 110 km of flyovers, designed to create signal-free corridors, enhance urban mobility, and improve road connectivity across the city.

The flyover expansion is part of a larger strategy to streamline traffic flow, reduce travel time, and provide relief to commuters facing daily gridlocks. With Bengaluru witnessing rapid urbanization and an increasing number of vehicles on the road, the new flyovers will help eliminate key bottlenecks and improve access to major commercial, residential, and IT hubs. This initiative aligns with BBMP’s ongoing efforts to modernize the city's transport infrastructure and create a more efficient and commuter-friendly road network.

In addition to the flyovers, BBMP is also strengthening its white-topping initiative, having already completed 200 km of durable concrete roads, with another 157 km under development at a cost of ₹1,700 crore. Further, 300 km of buffer zone roads are set to be developed to enhance traffic management and road durability.

With 65% of the budget allocated to infrastructure, BBMP’s push for elevated corridors and improved road networks is expected to significantly boost connectivity, reduce congestion, and support Bengaluru’s long-term urban growth.
