A young hero from West Bengal prevented a major catastrophe by using his red t-shirt as a flag to signal an approaching train on damaged tracks. This remarkable incident occurred near a railway yard in Malda, West Bengal, recently.

The 12-year-old boy, Mursaleen Sheikh, is the son of a migrant worker employed at the railway yard. At the time of the incident, Mursaleen was present there with some of the workers.

While at the yard, he noticed that a portion of the railway tracks nearby had been severely damaged and that a passenger train was rapidly approaching the perilous section. Without hesitation, Mursaleen removed his red t-shirt and vigorously waved it in the direction of the oncoming train. The alert locomotive pilot spotted this signal and immediately applied the emergency brakes, thereby preventing a potentially disastrous accident.

Sabyasachi De, the spokesperson of the North-East Frontier Railway, commended the boy’s quick thinking, saying, “Observing the rain-damaged section of the tracks, the boy acted sensibly and swiftly.”

In recognition of his courageous act, railway authorities honored Mursaleen with a certificate of bravery and rewarded him with a cash prize. Additionally, the local Member of Parliament and the divisional rail manager visited the boy’s home to extend their congratulations.

Meanwhile, railway officials repaired the damaged section of the track, and normal operations resumed.
