Bengaluru is embarking on a new chapter of transportation transformation with the construction of double-decker flyovers to complement the ongoing metro expansion. The ambitious plan includes the construction of 130 km of double-decker flyovers across the city, with 37 km of work already underway.

The first double-decker flyover, stretching from Ragigudda to Silk Board, has been successfully completed, allowing vehicles to travel along a 7 km stretch in one direction, from Ragigudda to Silk Board. However, work on the opposite stretch, from Silk Board to Raghigudda, is still pending.

Building on this success, the new metro corridors will also incorporate double-decker flyovers. As part of the third phase of the metro project, double-decker flyovers will be constructed along two corridors: from JP Nagar 4th phase to Kempapura, and from Hosa Halli to Kadabekere.
However, this ambitious plan has faced criticism. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has raised concerns that the focus on double-decker flyovers is delaying metro work. He has accused the Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) of prioritizing double-decker dreams at the cost of timely metro completion.
Despite the criticism, the DCM has confirmed that tenders for further double-decker flyovers will be called soon, signaling that the project is still on track.
