A tragic incident unfolded in the Majitha area of Amritsar, Punjab, where 14 people lost their lives and six others remain in critical condition after consuming spurious liquor. The authorities were alerted around 9:30 PM on May 12, prompting immediate action by local police and medical teams.

SSP Amritsar (Rural) Maninder Singh confirmed the death toll and reported that four individuals have been arrested, including Prabhjeet Singh, identified as the main supplier. During interrogation, Prabhjeet revealed the name of the kingpin, Sahab Singh, who has also been taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the illegal liquor.
The Punjab government has directed officials to take strong action, and raids are underway to trace all manufacturers and distributors of the fake alcohol. Two FIRs have been filed under strict legal provisions, including Section 105 of the BNS and Section 61A of the Excise Act.
Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney stated that the administration is working round the clock, conducting door-to-door checks in five affected villages to identify and treat any other potential victims. Medical teams are ensuring that even asymptomatic individuals receive hospital care as a precaution.
