National Medical Commission (NMC) has termed the admission of around 150 MBBS students of batch 2022-23 of GR Medical College in Mangaluru as arbitrary and illegal.

These students face uncertain future and are clueless about what could their future be after NMC considering their MBBS admissions to this college as illegal.

NMC’s Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) had said in its letter to the heath and family welfare department, that it had not granted approval to GR Medical College for admitting students for MBBS course for the year 2022-23. MARB had disapproved the permission to this college to admit students for MBBS course for the year 2023-23 based on its assessment in September 2022. It had only approved permission for the establishment of the college in 2021-22 for admitting students for its 150 MBBS seats.

The college had admitted 150 students to MBBS course without any approval from MARB for the year 2022-23 and all the admissions of these students are deemed improper and illegal.

NMC’s MARB has directed the government to look into the issue and submit a detailed report to the commission. MARB has also restricted this medical college from giving admissions to MBBS aspirants for the year 2023-24.

However, the college has approached court on this matter and maintained that it had taken admissions through the Karnataka Examinations Authority.
