Over 200 students in Bengaluru pledged to “Be the help until help arrives” as part of the ‘Active Bleeding Control’ (ABC) campaign organized by Aster RV Hospital recently. The initiative aims to empower bystanders with life-saving skills to manage bleeding and provide first aid during emergencies, especially at accident sites.

Launched by the hospital's Department of Pediatrics, the campaign has trained 200 volunteers in BTM Layout so far. It addresses the alarming number of unintentional injuries among children, particularly near schools, where 88% of fatalities occur within close proximity, according to the hospital's press release.

Uncontrolled bleeding can lead to death before professional help arrives. The ABC campaign trains participants in six essential steps to stop bleeding, ensuring they’re prepared to save lives.

The campaign takes inspiration from a similar initiative in Hyderabad, where over 1,076 volunteers, including 537 students and teachers, have reportedly saved 163 lives. This effort creates a “multiplier effect” by encouraging trained individuals to share their skills with others, building a network of over 2,700 responders.

By equipping communities with practical skills, they can reduce fatalities and foster a safer environment around schools and neighborhoods.

The free training program aims to empower citizens to act decisively during critical moments, ensuring no life is lost due to hesitation or lack of knowledge.
