Bengaluru is set to face a 24-hour water supply disruption on June 19 as the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) conducts crucial infrastructure upgrades and annual maintenance. The shutdown will span the entire Greater Bengaluru Urban Area, including residential, commercial, and industrial zones within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.

The BWSSB has scheduled the suspension of operations at all water treatment plants under the Cauvery Water Supply Project Phases I to V from 6 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, to 6 a.m. on Friday, June 20. This move aims to facilitate the integration of a newly installed 3,000-mm diameter pipeline at T K Village into the existing Stage V line and to carry out power system maintenance in coordination with the Karnataka Electricity Transmission Corporation.
Residents have been advised to store sufficient water in advance and use it sparingly during the shutdown. Authorities stress that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to ensure improved efficiency and reliability in the future water supply system.
This disruption comes amid Bengaluru’s ongoing struggle with water shortages. The recently launched Cauvery Stage V project seeks to address the issue by expanding piped water coverage to 50 lakh additional users, particularly in underserved areas. While the project aims to support zones like Mahadevapura, Yelahanka, and Bommanahalli, concerns about high connection fees have slowed adoption in some neighborhoods.
