According to police sources, Rana revealed that he operated as a trusted agent of the Pakistan Army and coordinated closely with David Coleman Headley, another key conspirator. He admitted that LeT trained them extensively, describing the organisation as functioning primarily as a spy network. Rana said he had set up a migration centre in Mumbai as a front to conduct financial transactions related to the terror plot.

He also confessed to visiting the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus before the attack and claimed the operation was planned in collaboration with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. He disclosed that the Pakistan Army had earlier deployed him to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War.

Rana, a former US resident, was deported to India in May and arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He remains in judicial custody till July 9. The Mumbai Crime Branch is now seeking his custody to further probe his role in orchestrating one of India’s deadliest terror attacks, which left 166 people dead and over 300 injured.
