The deadly landslides in the Wayanad district of Kerala has caused shockwaves across the country. The death toll is steadily on the rise and has touched 143 within 24 hours. People belonging to Karnataka have also been affected as a result of this.
50-year-old Rajendra, 45-year-old Rathnamma, 62-year-old Puttasiddhashetty and 50-year-old Rani belonging to the Irasavadi village of the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka have died as a result of the earthquake. The bodies of Puttasiddhashetty and Rani have been recovered by the rescue team. Swamishetty belonging to Thrayambakeshwar has been injured. The postmortem is being conducted in the Vythiri Taluk Hospital.
A Mandya-based family has also been affected by the landslides. Jhansirani belonging to the K.R Pete taluk of the Mandya district had married Anil Kumar from Mysuru. They were residing in Kerala. Anil, Jhansirani and his father Devaraja have been admitted to the VIMS and are reported to be in a critical condition. Jhansi Rani’s mother-in-law and 2-year-old son are currently missing.
