Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket on Wednesday, December 18, during a press conference held at the Gabba in Brisbane. The announcement came shortly after the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ended in a draw.

Ashwin, regarded as one of India’s most successful spinners, confirmed his decision alongside captain Rohit Sharma. The 37-year-old will not continue with the team for the remainder of the series and is set to return to India on Thursday, December 19.
Ashwin concluded his illustrious international career with remarkable achievements, including 537 wickets in 106 Tests. Known for his tactical brilliance and consistency, he was a key player in India's bowling attack for over a decade. His contributions extended beyond Test cricket, having also been part of India’s triumphant 2011 ICC ODI World Cup-winning squad.
The off-spinner hinted at continuing his cricketing journey at the club level, even as he steps away from international duties.
