  • 61 new mothers died this year at Vani Vilas Hospital due to anemia and heart issues
  • Many patients are high-risk and referred from other hospitals
  • A death audit is ongoing, with no negligence found

In Bengaluru’s Vani Vilas Hospital, 61 new mothers have tragically died this year, according to the Medical Superintendent Dr Savita’s statement to NewsFirst Prime. The causes of death are multifaceted, with anemia being one of the primary factors, particularly during delivery when it becomes uncontrollable. Many of the patients are also suffering from heart-related issues, further complicating their condition. The hospital primarily handles high-risk pregnancies, meaning the patients arriving there are often in critical health.

A death audit is currently being conducted by the health department to investigate the causes of these deaths more thoroughly. The Medical Superintendent emphasized that many patients who come to Vani Vilas are already in severe conditions, and many are referred from other medical facilities. Despite these challenges, the official maintains that there is no negligence on the part of the hospital staff in managing these cases.

Similarly, in Ballari, 23 new mothers have died in just the past eight months, highlighting a broader concern in the region regarding maternal health. While these numbers are concerning, authorities are working to understand the underlying causes and improve healthcare services to prevent further loss of life.
