‘95% of Indian women don’t know sex is for enjoyment’: Neena Gupta’s candid confession

Veteran actor Neena Gupta opened up about the stigma surrounding sex and the experiences of Indian women in a candid conversation with YouTuber and TV personality Lilly Singh. The interview, released on YouTube on April 3, 2025, saw Neena offering unfiltered insights into how sex is often misunderstood and misrepresented in Indian society.

Lilly shared a powerful snippet of their conversation on Instagram, captioned, “Let’s talk about SEX! @neena_gupta coming through with the REAL TALK.” In the clip, Neena says she feels “very sad for women and sex,” referring specifically to the Indian context.

“I’m talking about 95 or 99 percent of Indian women who don’t know that sex is something to be enjoyed,” she said. “For them, it’s just about pleasing a man or having children. They don’t see it as a source of pleasure. It’s very overrated.”

Lilly noted Neena’s comfort in speaking openly, mentioning that most women she’s interviewed whisper when saying the word “sex.” To this, Neena replied that she’s grown to see sex as one of the most overhyped topics in society.

The interview also touched on broader themes like ageism in Bollywood, societal judgment of women, motherhood, and reclaiming agency. Neena’s frankness was praised by fans for challenging taboos and sparking necessary conversations around female sexuality and social conditioning.
