The allegations of irregularities within the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) have even affected Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Mysuru staged a demonstration against the state government over this issue. They demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into the case.

Legislator A.S Ponnanna, who is a legal advisor to CM Siddaramaiah provided clarity in this issue along with relevant documentation. Speaking at a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, Ponnanna said, “The land allocated to CM Siddaramaiah’s wife is being highlighted as a scam by BJP leaders. The plot had to be let go due to a land acquisition drive in 1998. The land came under the possession of a person named Ninganna. In 2004, a sale deed was initiated with Mallikarjun Swamy. Mallikarjun is CM Siddaramaiah’s brother-in-law. The plot was converted into an agricultural site in 2005. The land was later gifted to CM Siddaramiah’s wife in 2010,” he said.

He further stated that land came under MUDA’s ambit in 2014. CM Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvathi is said to have written a letter to MUDA in this regard in 2014. She demanded compensation for this land. He argued that instead of money, land was offered as compensation. This is reported to have been given on the basis of a 50:50 rule which was brought into place by the BJP. The transaction also supposedly took place during BJP’s regime. “The compensation for the land would have been Rs 57 crore. However they have only obtained Rs 16 crore through the sale of this land,” Ponnanna added.
