In a bold move, Bollywood star Aamir Khan has decided not to sell the digital rights of his upcoming films while they are still in cinemas, according to a report by Pinkvilla.

Known for his innovative approach to filmmaking, Aamir is aiming to revive the box office appeal of social comedies by keeping them exclusive to theaters for a longer period.

Reportedly, according to sources, Aamir plans to keep his films on the big screen for at least 12 weeks before considering any digital release. “Aamir doesn’t want to pre-sell the digital rights of his films. His focus is on enhancing the theatrical experience,” a source revealed. By waiting to sell digital rights post-release, Khan is betting on audience reception to influence the valuation of his films.

This decision follows a general trend in India, where major exhibitors enforce an 8-week gap between theatrical and digital releases. Aamir, however, has extended this window, drawing from his recent experience with Laapataa Ladies, a film co-produced with Kiran Rao and Jio Studios.

Looking ahead, Aamir Khan Productions has a busy slate, including Sitaare Zameen Par and Lahore 1947, signaling that Khan is doubling down on his role as a producer. His unique approach to film distribution could reshape the industry’s dynamics in the digital age.
