In a major development in Bollywood, Adar Poonawalla’s Serene Entertainment has acquired a 50% stake in Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions for ₹1000 crore, edging out industry giants Reliance and Saregama in the deal. The acquisition, announced by the celebrated production house, marks a significant partnership between two prominent names in Indian entertainment and business.

Karan Johar, who will retain the remaining 50% stake in Dharma, will continue to lead the production house as Executive Chairman. Commenting on the collaboration, Johar expressed excitement about the partnership with Poonawalla, a close friend and visionary entrepreneur. "This partnership symbolizes the next chapter in Dharma’s journey, blending our storytelling legacy with forward-thinking business strategies," Johar reportedly stated.
Poonawalla, who helms Serene Entertainment, shared his enthusiasm for the deal, calling it an opportunity to help Dharma Productions scale new heights. "I am delighted to partner with Karan Johar and one of the most iconic production houses in our nation. Together, we hope to expand Dharma's legacy and reach greater success in the coming years," he reportedly said.
Founded by Yash Johar in 1976, Dharma Productions is one of India’s leading film companies, renowned for iconic films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Recent releases include Kill, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, and Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva.
