Renowned jurist Senior Advocate Fali S Narman passed away in the early hours of 21st February in New Delhi. He had led the arguments for Karnataka pertaining to the Cauvery dispute with Tamil Nadu in 2016 when Chief Justice Dipak Misra ruled in favour of an increase in share for Karnataka in 2016. “Saddened to hear about the passing of eminent Supreme Court lawyer Fali S. Nariman. A stalwart in river water disputes, Nariman's contributions were pivotal in representing Karnataka's interests for decades, especially in the Krishna and Cauvery river issues. His expertise and dedication brought justice to Karnataka's farmers, earning him respect in legal circles. My long association with him enriched my understanding of complex irrigation issues. His calm approach to problem-solving was unparalleled.My heartfelt condolences to his family members and well-wishers. Nariman Sir, you will forever remain in the hearts of Kannadigas,” Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah stated on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).

He is also known for several other prominent cases such as his representation of the Union Carbide in the Bhopal gas tragedy and representation of the state of Gujarat in the Narmada project case. “Shri Fali Nariman Ji was among the most outstanding legal minds and intellectuals. He devoted his life to making justice accessible to common citizens. I am pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. May his soul rest in peace,” Prime Minister Modi stated.
