  • The ceasefire came amid fears of escalation, with the US reaching to India based on credible intelligence

A day after declaring that the United States had brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about working with both countries to resolve the long-standing Kashmir conflict. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said he hoped a solution could finally be found “After a thousand years” and applauded the decision by both sides to step back from further aggression.

Trump thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their leadership, emphasizing that their actions prevented potential large-scale destruction and saved millions of lives. His remarks followed growing military tensions, with reports indicating that Pakistan was mobilizing troops toward forward positions.

According to sources, US Vice President JD Vance contacted PM Modi after receiving alarming intelligence and briefed Trump before the outreach. Trump later commended both countries for choosing diplomacy over conflict and hinted at increasing trade with both nations as a sign of strengthened ties.

On Saturday, Trump announced that both countries had agreed to a "Full and immediate ceasefire," and India confirmed that the Pakistani DGMO had initiated a call at 3:30 pm, with the ceasefire beginning at 5 pm. However, the calm was short-lived, India soon accused Pakistan of violating the agreement, citing heavy shelling and drone activity in the Akhnoor, Rajouri, and RS Pura sectors, where four Pakistani drones were reportedly shot down.

While Pakistan’s PM welcomed US efforts in mediating peace, India firmly stated that the ceasefire was the result of direct communication between the two countries, dismissing any suggestion of third-party involvement.
