  • Karnataka Police to undergo CPR training to respond during emergencies
  • Training follows stadium heart attack tragedy and viral CPR rescue video
  • Initiative aims to save lives before ambulances arrive at critical scenes

In a significant move aimed at strengthening public safety, the Karnataka State Police Department has decided to provide CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training to all police personnel. This decision comes in the wake of the tragic stampede incident at Chinnaswamy Stadium during an RCB match, where the stampede claimed 11 lives.

The department recognized a crucial gap in emergency first response during such high-pressure events. According to Alok Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (Training), officers are often the first to reach the scene of an emergency, even before ambulances arrive. However, many lack basic life-saving skills like CPR, which could be the difference between life and death.

Following multiple incidents, including a viral video of a young woman saving a man’s life by performing CPR during a public emergency, the department has decided to formally integrate CPR training into the police training curriculum. The training will be conducted at official police training centers across the state.

Experts believe that if timely CPR had been administered during the stadium incident, up to 11 lives could have potentially been saved. Police personnel will now be trained to handle cardiac arrests, breathing difficulties, and other trauma cases until professional medical help arrives.

Importantly, CPR requires no medical equipment, making it a practical skill for field officers. With this initiative, the department aims to ensure that every beat cop becomes a lifesaver, especially in time-sensitive situations like stampedes, road accidents, or public events.

Alok Kumar emphasized that this is not just a training upgrade but a life-saving mission that can impact thousands of lives across Karnataka.
