  • Cameras will detect over speeding and generate Challans
  • Cameras in place in 6 spots
  • Tenders in place for crash barriers

An AI (Artificial Intelligence) based detection tool was tested on a trial basis on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway on 28th July. The ADGP (Additional Director General of Police) for traffic and road safety, Bengaluru, Alok Kumar referred to the trial as part of a larger developing design of an “intelligent traffic management system” that would be fully in place in Mysore. He also invited suggestions that could be incorporated for the same.

Currently the same limits that have been defined for the expressway are 100 km per hour, 80 km per hour and 60 km per hour for the right, middle and left lane respectively. The AI cameras in place would detect potential violation of the speed limits and generate E- Challans on that basis. The data would be collected in a control room. Currently the data is being stored in the Kaniminike and Gananguru toll gates. Driving on the wrong lane, usage of mobiles while driving and refusal to wear seat belts while on the front seat are other violations that would be monitored and fined. Alok Kumar had mentioned that this setup was in place in 6 spots across the highway. Close to 25 spots have been marked as potential sites that could cause an accident. Tenders have been published for building overbridges, restrooms , crash barriers, bus stops and functional entry and exit points in the expressway.
