Over 200 individuals across Karnataka have fallen victim to a cyber scam involving an AI-generated video of US President Donald Trump. The elaborate fraud, reported in cities such as Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Mangaluru, and Haveri, promised high returns through investments in a fictitious Trump Hotel rental scheme.

The scam surfaced over the past few months, with victims lured via social media platforms like YouTube. Once they clicked on promotional links, users were directed to download a mobile app and complete registration forms, including sensitive bank details. Initially, a nominal payment of Rs 1,500 was requested to activate their accounts, after which users were assigned tasks—like writing company profiles—with virtual payouts displayed on the app.
The interface showed accumulating earnings, reinforcing trust among users. As payouts appeared consistent, many victims were convinced to invest larger amounts, ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1 lakh. However, when attempts were made to withdraw significant amounts, users were asked to pay additional taxes—only to realize later that the entire operation was fraudulent.
One complainant from Haveri claimed to have lost nearly Rs 6 lakh between January and April. The Haveri Cybercrime, Economics, and Narcotics (CEN) police have launched an investigation following his complaint.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution when approached with investment offers online, especially those involving celebrity endorsements or AI-generated content.
