Motorists speeding on Bengaluru-Mysuru highway may now be penalised

Don't complete 119-kilometer journey in less than an hour

KSRSA has implemented AI-powered cameras and sectional speed control systems

Motorists traveling from Bengaluru to Mysuru may now face penalties if they complete the 119-kilometer journey in less than an hour. The Karnataka State Road Safety Authority (KSRSA) has implemented AI-powered cameras and sectional speed control systems on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway to monitor traffic violations, including overspeeding, non-compliance with seat belts, illegal lane changes, and mobile phone usage while driving.

The introduction of the sectional speed control system in August has significantly contributed to road safety on this accident-prone highway. The system calculates the average speed of vehicles between two designated points, ensuring that motorists adhere to the 100 kmph speed limit. If a vehicle completes the section faster than the permissible time, it is flagged for overspeeding.

The new monitoring approach prevents drivers from slowing down only near known speed camera locations, as the average speed over longer distances is now considered.

Since its implementation, the AI-powered cameras have identified 89,200 overspeeding cases on the Bengaluru-Mysuru stretch. These measures have reportedly led to a substantial reduction in fatal accidents, underscoring the effectiveness of the technology in enhancing road safety across the region.
