The holy city of Prayagraj is witnessing an unprecedented convergence of technology and tradition as millions flock to the Maha Kumbh 2025. With 400 million devotees, including global dignitaries and spiritual leaders, expected to attend the 45-day event from January 13 to February 26, authorities have implemented cutting-edge AI-driven measures to ensure safety and convenience.

At the heart of this security framework are 2,700 AI-enabled cameras equipped with facial recognition technology. Strategically placed across entry points and key areas, these cameras provide real-time monitoring, enabling authorities to swiftly address potential threats. Complementing this is a team of 56 cyber experts monitoring online threats and operating cyber help desks across police stations.

For the first time, underwater drones capable of diving 100 meters are patrolling the Sangam, while tethered drones at 120 meters monitor crowd movements to facilitate rapid medical responses. Adding another layer of protection, AI-powered surveillance systems guide 40,000 police personnel across a multi-layered “impenetrable security chakravyuh.”

Devotees are also benefiting from the Kumbh Sah'AI'yak chatbot, an AI assistant accessible via the Maha Kumbh app or WhatsApp. Offering multilingual support and personalized navigation, it provides real-time updates on rituals, crowd conditions, and emergency alerts.

This fusion of artificial intelligence with tradition underscores the Uttar Pradesh government’s commitment to leveraging technology to protect and enhance the spiritual experience for millions.
