AICTE to implement unique identification system for students

This unique identifier will be integrated with Academic Bank of Credits,

Colleges will have the autonomy to determine how to allocate credits

The Indian Ministry of Education is preparing to implement an individualized identification system, much like the Aadhaar number, for students, starting from their early years in kindergarten.

This unique identifier will be integrated with the Academic Bank of Credits, facilitating the monitoring of students’ educational progress through a centralized platform. Additionally, it will be correlated with the Aadhaar number and represented as a novel QR code.

During a Freshers Day event at Ramaiah Institute of Technology, TG Sitharam, the Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), unveiled this initiative. Sitharam mentioned that the project to assign exclusive identification numbers to students will soon be introduced.

Under this scheme, every enrolled student will receive a single, permanent identification number, which will remain constant throughout their academic journey.

This identifier will be interconnected with the Academic Bank of Credits, streamlining the tracking and consolidation of students’ academic accomplishments within a single platform. Furthermore, it will be linked to Aadhaar.

Sitharam highlighted the introduction of a new QR code for students. Colleges will have the autonomy to determine how to allocate credits, even for extracurricular activities. All of these details will be reflected in the unique identification number.”
