A woman recently faced a terrifying ordeal at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport when she boarded a cab she believed to be an official Ola ride. The driver, later revealed as an impersonator, attempted to extort money from her. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when she booked an Ola cab from the airport's designated pickup area. The unassigned driver approached her, claiming he could take her to her destination.

Despite initial hesitation, she entered the vehicle but soon realized the driver did not follow Ola's standard procedures, such as requesting the mandatory OTP or using the official app. Instead, he asked her to enter her destination on his Maps app, citing technical issues. Midway through the journey, the driver demanded extra fare, and upon her refusal, suggested transferring her to another vehicle.

Fearing for her safety, she requested to return to the airport, but the driver ignored her pleas and stopped at a petrol station, demanding ₹500 for fuel. Staying composed, the woman contacted 112, India’s emergency helpline, and kept her family informed. Police arrived at the airport pickup area within 20 minutes and apprehended the driver, identified as Basavaraj.
The woman later shared her harrowing experience on X, stating, “Almost got trafficked/raped/looted/assaulted…had I not called 112, I’d not be here typing this.” The incident has sparked serious concerns regarding airport security and ride-hailing safety measures. One user commented, “This is so scary, I’m getting goosebumps,” while another shared a similar experience.
