In another incident of pre-poll cash seizure in Andhra Pradesh, police in East Godavari confiscated Indian currency worth Rs 7 crore from a commercial vehicle. The seizure occurred after the vehicle, transporting the cash from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam, overturned following a collision with a lorry in Anantapally, Nallajarla mandal.
Local residents observed individuals transferring cash from seven cardboard boxes to another sack inside the vehicle and promptly alerted the authorities. The driver sustained injuries in the accident and was rushed to Gopalapuram Hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the source of the cash, amid suspicions of potential electoral malpractice. This incident follows closely on the heels of another cash seizure just two days prior, where unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 8 crore was intercepted from a truck at a checkpost in NTR district. Two individuals were apprehended in connection with the earlier cash seizure, which involved concealing the money within a secret compartment of the pipe-loaded truck.
These consecutive cash hauls underscore growing concerns over attempts to influence the upcoming May 13 polls in Andhra Pradesh. Law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in their efforts to curb illegal practices and maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
