Veteran West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career marked by power-hitting, match-winning performances, and unforgettable contributions to West Indies’ T20 legacy. The 37-year-old will feature in only the first two T20Is against Australia, scheduled to take place at Sabina Park in Jamaica, his home ground, before stepping away from international duties.

Russell has been a significant figure in West Indies cricket, playing 84 T20 Internationals and scoring 1,078 runs while taking 61 wickets. He was an integral part of the Caribbean side that lifted the ICC T20 World Cup in both 2012 and 2016. Renowned for his explosive all-round capabilities, Russell leaves the field with a memorable legacy that has inspired countless young cricketers.

Apart from his international stints, Russell is one of the most prolific performers in global T20 franchise leagues. Over 561 matches in various leagues, he has amassed 9,316 runs at a blistering strike rate of 168.31 and claimed 485 wickets, cementing his reputation as one of the best T20 all-rounders the game has seen.

To complete the squad for the remaining three T20Is of the Australia series, West Indies selectors have named Matthew Forde as Russell’s replacement. The final three matches of the series will be held in St. Kitts and Nevis, following the Sabina Park games.
