Anil Kumble Appointed Karnataka’s Wildlife and Forest Ambassador

Bengaluru, May 29 — Amid controversy surrounding the appointment of actress Tamannaah Bhatia as the brand ambassador for Mysore Sandal Soap, the Karnataka Forest Department has taken a noteworthy and widely appreciated step by nominating legendary cricketer Anil Kumble as the state’s Forest and Wildlife Ambassador.

The announcement was made by Karnataka’s Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre during a press conference at Vidhana Soudha. He said that the state government has appointed the former Indian cricket captain and coach to the new honorary role, given his strong background and past involvement with environmental causes. Notably, Kumble had previously served as Vice-Chairperson of the Karnataka Wildlife Board.

“Kumble is a globally respected personality and a proud Kannadiga. He will play a key role in raising awareness among the public about forest and wildlife conservation,” said Minister Khandre. He added that Kumble has accepted the role with a sense of social responsibility and will not be receiving any remuneration for his service.

Soon after the announcement, Anil Kumble expressed his gratitude to the Karnataka government through a social media post, saying he was honoured to contribute to conservation efforts in the state.

This appointment marks a strategic and meaningful move to promote environmental awareness by leveraging the influence of a respected sports icon.
