  • Hearing my voice gave me a lot of joy: Aparna
  • Aparna lended her voice for Kannada announcements
  • Her hold over language was masterful: BMRCL

Anyone who has travelled by Namma Metro in Bengaluru is aware of announcements in Kannada such as ‘Dhaya maadi bagailininda swalpa doora nilli’ (please stand away from the door), ‘Mundina nildhaana’ (next stop) and ‘Baagilu yedakke theriyalidhe’ (Doors will open the left). The voice behind these announcements was that of anchor Aparna who passed away on 11th July.

She was suffering from cancer for a sustained period before her death. Aparna had also lended her voice for other organisations such as the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Airtel.

Aparna travelled by Namma Metro on one occasion and talked about this experience in an interview. “It was on Diwali and my husband had suggested that there would be no crowd. I travelled from Banashankari to M.G Road. Hearing my voice gave me a lot of joy. Today Metro has replaced cars to some extent and I am glad that I was able to contribute with my voice,” Aparna said. The X (formerly known as Twitter) handle of Namma Metro also paid condolences on the occasion of Aparna’s death. “Her hold over language and her pronunciation was masterful. Her voice will forever remain alive in Namma Metro,” BMRCL’s handle remarked in a post.
