Apple is poised for a substantial expansion in its operations within India, aiming to ramp up production and create job opportunities for approximately 500,000 individuals over the next three years, reportedly according to government sources.

This move signifies a significant surge from the current employment level of 150,000 Apple workers in India, with the majority employed through its two plants managed by Tata Electronics.

The California-based tech giant is eyeing a five-fold increase in its production scale, targeting a surge of over five times to approximately USD 40 billion (approximately 3.32 lakh crore) over the next four to five years. This ambitious expansion plan follows Apple’s exceptional performance in India in 2023, where it attained the highest revenue in the country for the first time, as per a Counterpoint Research report.

Furthermore, the study disclosed a noteworthy milestone as Apple not only surpassed 10 million unit shipments for the first time in a year but also secured the top position in revenue generation. Concurrently, there was a striking surge in iPhone exports from India, doubling to USD 12.1 billion in the fiscal year 2023-24 from USD 6.27 billion in the preceding fiscal year, marking a remarkable increase of nearly 100%, according to research conducted by The Trade Vision, a trade intelligence service.
