  • AI may have a detrimental effect on human beings
  • Job cuts to become a global phenomenon later
  • Growing trend leaves many worried

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is indeed a good thing. It goes a long way in assisting humans to lead a better life. However, more and more sophistication and advancement can be, antithetically, detrimental to mankind.

In a new study by McKinsey Institute named “Generative AI and the Future of Work in America”, it has come to light that AI can have a significant say in jobs being cut in the near future.

Fears come true in 2030?

The threat of AI indeed looms large. By 2030, all jobs which need automation like data collection, tasks having a lot of repetition will be replaced by AI, in a move that is touted to bring in more efficiency.

Other jobs that will be impacted more are office support, customer service and even food employment service.

"We estimate that demand for clerks12 could decrease by 1.6 million jobs, in addition to losses of 830,000 for retail salespersons, 710,000 for administrative assistants, and 630,000 for cashiers. These jobs involve a high share of repetitive tasks, data collection, and elementary data processing, all activities that automated systems can handle efficiently,” quoted India Today.

Low earners

Of all the employees, it is the low earners who have to bear the maximum brunt. Therefore, as AI begins to replace humans, it will become inevitable for such people to rearm themselves with new skills to stay relevant in the market.

Emerging job due to AI

However, the report by McKinsey clarifies that this shift in jobs will not be immediate, rather it will enhance the STEM, creative, business, and legal professionals. The demand for STEM jobs is anticipated to rise by 23 percent by 2030.
