When the Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced, Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya had taken over as the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI). He however did not have the ideal start to his captaincy after being a recipient to the fury of the crowd in Ahmedabad and Mumbai. He had unceremoniously replaced Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the role. Mumbai Indians did not get off to a great start to their campaign losing matches at frequent intervals. They had in fact finished at the bottom of the table having won only 4 of their 14 games. 

There are also speculations about Rohit Sharma considering alternative franchises for the upcoming season of IPL. Therefore the pressure on Pandya must have been much higher in the ICC T-20 World Cup. He even had the daunting task of defending 16 of the last over with the dangerous South African batsman David Miller on strike. Pandya however managed to grab Miller’s wicket with some brilliant assistance in the field by Suryakumar Yadav. He ensured India’s victory by 7 runs.

Pandya was reduced to tears as India had emerged as the T-20 Champions. Furthermore in a moment of bonhomie, Rohit Sharma kissed Hardik Pandya indicating that the conflict between them had truly concluded on a good note. The contribution of MI players has been noteworthy throughout the tournament. Whether their team dynamics remains intact remains to be seen.
