Asia Cup: Will India be eliminated without losing a single match?

  • Bangladesh also has a chance for qualification although slim
  • If all of India's games gets washed out they face a risk of elimination
  • India could still qualify if they defeat Bangladesh and the other 2 games get washed out

The Asia Cup is approaching the fag end with just about 5 games remaining including the finals. It is time to bring out the calculators to discuss the various permutations and combinations that are possible at the moment.

As far as Bangladesh are concerned, their chances of winning the cup, for which they would have to qualify for the finals remain very slim at the moment. But they have not yet been eliminated, at least on paper. They would have to defeat India by a considerably huge margin and also hinge onto the hope that if India were to defeat Pakistan, Sri Lanka defeat India and if Pakistan were to win against India, India defeat Sri Lanka. If the game between Sri Lanka and Pakistan would get washed out, Bangladesh would automatically be eliminated.

With rain looming around the corner, India faces a potential risk of being eliminated without having lost a single game. This could happen if all of India’s games get washed out. Sri Lanka and Pakistan have a positive net run rate and unless the game between them sees either lose with a margin enough to take their net run rate into negative figures, both would qualify for the finals marking the end of India’s campaign. However were 2 of India’s game to be washed out and they still manage to get the upper hand against Bangladesh, they would face the winner of the game against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the final and in case that game also gets washed out, Net Run Rate would decide the finalists.
