In a major political shift, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi will soon assume the role of Delhi’s Chief Minister, following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation today after a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Atishi’s rise to the top position comes amid legal challenges faced by senior AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, who resigned after their arrests.

Atishi, 43, an Oxford-educated Rhodes Scholar, has been a driving force in Delhi’s education reforms, a key initiative under Kejriwal’s administration. She played a pivotal role in transforming the capital’s government schools, a hallmark of AAP’s governance.

An MLA from Kalkaji, Atishi joined the Delhi cabinet in March 2023 after Sisodia’s resignation, taking on critical portfolios like Education and the Public Works Department (PWD). Since then, she has led several key projects, often serving as the public face of the party during Kejriwal and Sisodia’s legal battles.

Her ascent is marked by her proactive approach to governance and reform, with her work earning national recognition. Atishi’s public profile grew further during the 2023 Independence Day celebrations when she was slated to hoist the national flag on behalf of the Delhi government, though the plan was halted by the Lieutenant Governor.

From her early days working with grassroots organizations to becoming one of AAP’s most prominent leaders, Atishi’s journey to the Chief Minister’s office reflects her steady rise and growing influence within the party and Delhi politics.
