Axar credits Dhoni for career turnaround ahead of CSK lash

As Delhi Capitals gear up to face Chennai Super Kings in their next IPL 2025 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, team skipper Axar Patel has opened up about the influence MS Dhoni has had on his cricketing journey.

In a video shared by the Delhi Capitals on social media, Axar reflected on how conversations with Dhoni during the 2021 T20 World Cup and messages after India’s victories in the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy proved pivotal in his turnaround. The left-arm all-rounder, who has been instrumental in DC’s strong start to the season with wins over Lucknow Super Giants and SunRisers Hyderabad, credited the former India captain for his renewed confidence and success.

“I have a close bond with Mahi bhai. I used to share a lot with him when he was captain. During the 2021 World Cup, he was our mentor, and we had some deep conversations about mindset. That changed a lot for me,” Axar shared.

He added, jokingly, “He even said my planets were misaligned and suggested I perform some rituals!”

The Capitals will hope Axar’s Dhoni-inspired clarity continues as they face the formidable five-time champions CSK in what promises to be a high-octane contest at Chepauk on Saturday.
