The Kargil Vijay Diwas was commemorated in the Lamochan view point, Ladakh. It is the site for the Kargil war memorial. Meanwhile, the Cholada Gudda village near Banashankari temple in Badami also has a statue made with stone in remembrance of the Kargil war heroes. In the year 2000, students of the Hampi Kannada University collaborated to construct this statue.
It should be taken into consideration that the district of Badami town, in the Bagalkot district had its own son of the soil, Naik Shivabasayya Kulkarni be slain during Operation Vijay. He was in the army as part of the corps of engineers regiment as a combat engineer. He was martyred on May 27th, 1999 at a young age of 32, when the Pakistan Army had infiltrated into regions falling into Indian territory. He had finished an ITI (Industrial Training Institute) course but his passion to serve the country had superseded all other considerations and he joined the army at the age of 19. He is survived by his wife, Nirmala and 2 children, Vishal and Sahana. Nirmala Kulkarni was honoured in the Ganesh Utsav in 2018 by the then Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde. The statue makes a mention of Naik Shivabassaya Kulkarni.
