Badrinath takes jibe at Rohit Sharma

Ex- Indian cricketer turned commentator had shared an image on X, formerly known as Twitter in which Rohit Sharma’s dismissal in the Asia Cup match against Shaheen Shah Afrida was contrasted with an image from a Tamil film. Both the batting stance and the posture were similar in the dismissals. “Too identical (the shot I meant),” he had captioned the image.

He had faced an array of attacks by users of X saying it demonstrated a lack of respect for the Indian Cricket team’s captain coming from an ex-player. Others also made snide remarks on Badrinath saying that Rohit Sharma has more international sixes than runs made by Badrinath during his brief stint with the team.

Comparisons between Rohit Sharma and Tamil actor Michi Shiva have been an ongoing meme trend in Tamil Nadu given a similarity in looks and physique. Michi Shiva had acted in Chennai 600028, a film about 2 local cricket league teams. The visuals from that film are often used in contrast to Rohit Sharma in the memes. 

Subramaniam Badrinath had made his debut in the same year as Rohit Sharma, in 2008. He was a promising batsmen with great technique but never got an extended run in the international team despite consistent performances  in the domestic circuits.
