The Shakti scheme started by the Karnataka government offering free rides to women has come as a boon to many temple, including the Banashankari temple in Bengaluru.

It saw a massive influx of people over the last month. The money collected from the “Vishesha Darshana” (Special Offering) saw a 4-time increase in its collection. A collection of Rs 10 lakh was recorded in the last 1 month from the “Vishesha Darshana” alone. The “Vishesha Darshana”  costs an amount of Rs 50. Apart from the “Vishesha Darshana”, the other sources of revenue for the temple were from the “Arjane Sankalpa” (Offered Vow), Panchamrutha Abhisheka (Milk Offering), Seere Henige (Saare Adornment) and Seere Haraaju (Saare Auction). These added to 12 lakh in and of itself. 

 The “Vishesha Darshana” is scheduled between 6 am to 1 pm on all days except Monday and between 3 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday, between 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Friday and Sunday and between 4:30 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

It may be reiterated that the scheme has resulted in the flourishing of pilgrimage across the state. Shringeri and Dharmasthala also saw people flocking to the sites in huge numbers. Veerendra Heggade, the administrator of the Dharmasthala temple wrote a letter to Siddaramaiah thanking him for the service.
