The aircraft, a China-manufactured F-7 BGI, an advanced variant of the MiG-21 fighter was on a training mission when it lost control and crashed into the school premises. The sudden explosion and resulting fire left the area in chaos. Emergency responders arrived promptly, and the injured were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for medical care.
The accident bears haunting similarity to the recent Air India crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which claimed 270 lives. While that tragedy remains fresh in public memory, this latest disaster has sent shockwaves across South Asia.
The F-7 BGI is considered one of the more advanced aircraft in the Bangladesh Air Force, specifically designed for multi-role combat missions. The jet’s Chinese origin has now come under scrutiny, as this accident has dealt a blow to the reliability perception of Chinese-made aircraft.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences via social media, stating he was “deeply saddened by the loss of young students and educators” and assured India's full support to Bangladesh in this time of grief.
As authorities begin a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash, families of the victims mourn lives cut short, dreams of students and dedication of teachers lost to a devastating twist of fate.
