In a startling case involving national security, Bhopal police have arrested a Bangladeshi citizen who had been living illegally in India for over three decades, most recently under the false identity of a transgender woman named Neha Kinnar. The accused, identified as Abdul Kalam, had entered India illegally as a 10-year-old and lived in Mumbai for nearly 20 years before relocating to Bhopal’s Budhwara area.

For the past eight years, he had been living as a transgender person under the alias Neha Kinnar. Authorities were tipped off through confidential intelligence inputs, leading to a covert operation that exposed Kalam’s long-standing deception.
During the investigation, police discovered that Kalam had forged several Indian identity documents, including an Aadhaar card, voter ID, and even a passport, to establish himself as an Indian citizen. The forged documents are being examined for links to any larger networks or security threats.
Given the sensitive nature of the case, central agencies including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have stepped in to conduct parallel investigations. Kalam’s mobile phone has been seized, and cyber experts are analyzing its contents to trace communication patterns and possible accomplices.
Authorities are also conducting a gender verification test to determine whether the accused is actually a transgender individual or assumed that identity to avoid detection and deportation. Kalam has been remanded to 30 days in custody for further interrogation.
Legal procedures for deportation will follow, and the central government has been informed due to the potential implications for national security.
