The much-anticipated Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) budget for 2025-26 is expected to be presented on March 27 or 28 with an estimated outlay surpassing Rs 18,000 crore. This marks a significant increase from the revised 2024-25 budget of Rs 13,116 crore.

Deputy chief minister and Bengaluru development minister DK Shivakumar will attend a pre-budget meeting with Bengaluru legislators to discuss allocations for various initiatives under the Brand Bengaluru project. These include Sugama Sanchara Bengaluru, Clean Bengaluru, Green Bengaluru, Healthy Bengaluru, Education Bengaluru, Tech Bengaluru, Vibrant Bengaluru and Water Security Bengaluru.
With infrastructure development as a key focus, the budget aims to enhance major roads, improve solid waste management, and initiate the Urban Tunnel project to ease traffic congestion. The Project’s total cost is Rs 40,000 crore with the state government guaranteeing Rs 19,000 crore, while BBMP must arrange the remaining amount through loans. The outlay has increased partly due to a rise in the state’s yearly grant from Rs 3000 crore to Rs 7000 crore.
BBMP has also intensified its property tax collection efforts, targeting chronic defaulters through property auctions. Of the 20.5 lakh properties under BBMP’s jurisdiction, 3.49 lakh owners owe Rs 390 crore in unpaid taxes. Special Commissioner (Revenue) Munish Moudgil emphasized the civic body’s firm stance, urging public support in ensuring tax compliance to uphold fairness for honest taxpayers.
