In a focused effort to address encroachments and improve urban infrastructure, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath directed officials to identify and remove encroachments in the Mahadevapura zone during an inspection on Friday.

The commissioner emphasized clearing illegal occupations around lakes, stormwater drains, and side drains, particularly near Vengaiah Lake. Development plans for Vengayyana Lake in KR Puram, with a budget of ₹8 crore, include desilting, bund reinforcement, fencing, inlet repairs, and a diversion line. Measures to curb sewage inflow include a newly installed 15 MLD sewage treatment plant, supplementing a 10 MLD facility by the Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
Flood Mitigation Efforts
Monsoon preparedness is underway with flood prevention work along Sakra Hospital Road. A 750-metre stormwater drain is being upgraded, with 120 metres receiving concrete lining and the remainder being asphalted.
Road Repairs and Public Amenities
Service road repairs near Marathahalli Outer Ring Road include new pathways, median drains, and desilting side drains.
Culvert Drain Overhaul
The culvert drain near ITPL Road was inspected, with directives to desilt and explore permanent solutions for waterlogging. The Stormwater Drainage Department has been tasked with ensuring long-term resolutions.
Commissioner Nath urged strict action against officials failing to address property tax collection and encroachment issues.
