The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has stepped up its efforts against property tax defaulters, attaching more than 81,000 properties and sealing 6,914 others in the current financial year. Civic officials reported recovering ₹3.69 crore in the past week alone, sealing 203 non-residential properties and attaching 180 for non-payment of dues.

By January 4, BBMP collected ₹4,370.81 crore in property tax, achieving nearly 84% of its ₹5,210.48 crore target for the financial year. This represents a 25.31% increase compared to ₹3,487.96 crore collected by the same period last year.
In early January, BBMP identified 2,06,753 defaulters with outstanding dues totaling ₹329.15 crore. Since last April, ₹404.46 crore has been recovered from 1,88,497 of the 3,95,250 defaulters recorded, officials reportedly said. Mahadevapura zone leads in defaulters (44,363), followed by Bommanahalli (33,042) and RR Nagar (32,508).
Special Commissioner (Revenue) Munish Moudgil instructed zonal commissioners to prioritize recovery from properties with long-pending arrears, particularly commercial establishments. Measures include sealing, confiscation, and foreclosure.
A zonal review is scheduled this week to assess progress and ensure aggressive recovery measures continue, BBMP officials reportedly confirmed. The civic body’s intensified actions aim to close the revenue gap as the financial year nears its end.
