Bengaluru is set for a major administrative overhaul as the Karnataka government aims to complete the division of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) by September 15. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the state will subsequently establish the Greater Bengaluru Authority to oversee the city's expanding needs.
A notification issued on May 15 laid the groundwork for transitioning BBMP into this new authority. The formation of multiple corporations under the new structure is scheduled within the next 120 days, with input from legislators on their number and jurisdiction.

In parallel, the government is moving forward with a phased eviction of street vendors from footpaths. Over 27,000 vendors have registered and will be provided push carts to operate from designated zones. Around 3,700 vendors have already requested carts.
Addressing infrastructure, Shivakumar outlined plans for road widening along stormwater drains, with necessary land acquisitions based on MLA recommendations. The government has identified 300 km of roads for development and will remove optical fibre cables improperly laid through sewage lines.
Efforts to modernise urban administration include converting 25 lakh property records into digital accounts. So far, 5 lakh have been digitised under a nationally recognised e-governance initiative.
To clear abandoned vehicles from city roads, a 100-acre dumping yard will be established. Additionally, service and main roads will be integrated along metro corridors across 40-50 km to improve traffic flow.
