  • Elections expected by September-October 2025

After a four-year hiatus without local body elections in Bengaluru, the state government is now preparing for civic polls under a new framework. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon be restructured and renamed as "Greater Bengaluru," with elections likely to be held within the next five months.

Rizwan Arshad, Chairman of the Greater Bengaluru Committee and Shivajinagar MLA, confirmed that the new structure will officially come into effect on May 15. Within a month of this, new administrative rules will be drafted. The government will also finalize details such as the number of corporations, possibly three or five, and the division of wards across them.

A final blueprint outlining ward boundaries and administrative zones is expected in the next two months. Elections will be conducted for each corporation once the restructuring is complete.

Until then, BBMP will continue under its current commissioner, but with the Greater Bengaluru title. If the process stays on track, civic elections are expected to take place by September or October 2025, bringing an end to years of administrative vacuum.
