Bengaluru’s urban governance is set for a major overhaul as the Karnataka Legislative Assembly’s Joint Scrutiny Committee reviews the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill-2024.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has called on citizens to actively participate in shaping the city’s future through a structured public consultation process.

The proposed bill aims to decentralize administration by creating up to ten city corporations, enhancing ward committees, and ensuring greater political accountability in public service delivery. The initiative seeks to establish a transparent, citizen-centric governance model to improve urban management and residents’ quality of life.

To encourage public participation, a zonal-wise consultation schedule has been planned, allowing residents, welfare associations, and organizations to provide suggestions on the Greater Bengaluru Authority-2024. BBMP has urged citizens to engage in these discussions and voice their concerns, ensuring their perspectives are integrated into the new governance framework.

The Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill-2024 proposes the formation of a Greater Bengaluru Authority to oversee city development while empowering ward committees as the foundation of urban decision-making. The bill aims to streamline governance, improve service delivery, and address urban challenges through an inclusive and efficient administrative structure.

For participation details, citizens can refer to BBMP’s official circular.
