The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched a city-wide awareness campaign at 250 locations to educate residents about community animals under the theme Public Health Through Animal Welfare. The initiative, spearheaded by the Animal Husbandry Department, was inaugurated on January 16 at Dr. Rajkumar’s Glass House in the BBMP head office.

The campaign focuses on fostering coexistence with community animals and raising awareness about legal provisions, citizen responsibilities, and best practices for treating animals with compassion.
Activities planned include street plays, dance performances, and the distribution of informational leaflets across all eight city zones. These efforts aim to engage the public and encourage proactive participation in protecting community animals from harm.
The campaign also underscores the legal consequences of mistreating animals. Under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, acts such as relocating animals, denying them food or water, or causing injury can attract strict penalties.
Citizens are encouraged to learn more about the BBMP’s initiatives by visiting the Animal Husbandry Department’s Instagram handle, @bbmp_animalhusbandry.
With a symbolic launch at the BBMP central office, the campaign aims to promote a culture of compassion and respect towards community animals, ensuring harmonious coexistence within the urban environment.
