BBMP officially releases notification on reconfiguration of wards

Initially proposed 243 wards reduced to a total of 225 wards

Ward maps will soon be made available online for public reference

The Karnataka government has officially released a notification regarding the reconfiguration of wards within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). This has resulted in a reduction from the initially proposed 243 wards to a total of 225 wards.

This decision comes ahead of the forthcoming BBMP elections, with indications suggesting that the Congress government is contemplating scheduling the elections for December of this year.

The process of ward re-delineation commenced when the state government reestablished the Wards Delimitation Commission, led by Tushar Giri Nath, the Chief Commissioner of BBMP, on June 23.

On August 4, the commission submitted its report on ward reconfiguration to the government, which was subsequently approved. Following this, a draft delineation of wards based on the 2011 Census was published on August 18, along with a 15-day window for public objections.

Taking into account the feedback and recommendations received from the public, the committee incorporated numerous modifications into the preliminary delineation.

These revisions were then endorsed by the government, resulting in the final notification of ward reconfiguration, which reduced the total number of BBMP wards to 225.

Chairman Nath emphasized that the committee thoroughly considered all citizen objections and suggestions and adjusted the draft delineation accordingly. Furthermore, he conveyed that the ward maps would soon be accessible online for public reference.
