To tackle escalating traffic woes on Kanakapura Road, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has initiated plans for a 10-km expressway connecting Banashankari to NICE Road. The project, deemed urgent, aims to provide an alternative route for commuters amidst ongoing Metro construction along Kanakapura Road.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has directed the BBMP to expedite the project. In a letter to BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath, Shivakumar emphasized the severe congestion faced by daily commuters. He proposed leveraging the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (BWSSB) pipeline road for the expressway, noting that existing infrastructure constraints necessitate immediate action.

BBMP officials confirmed that tenders for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be floated soon. Senior engineers highlighted that the expressway is a critical infrastructure requirement, promising to alleviate bottlenecks and enhance connectivity in the rapidly developing region.

The expressway proposal has drawn attention due to its potential to streamline traffic and reduce travel times for thousands of residents. Once the DPR is finalized, further steps, including land acquisition and project implementation, are expected to follow. The BBMP aims to ensure timely execution of the project to meet the city’s growing transportation demands.

Residents and commuters await further updates, hoping for swift progress on this much-needed initiative.
