  • BBMP plans to construct 16 flyovers and elevated corridors across city
  • These infra projects to be built at an estimated cost of ₹13,140 crore
  • BBMP aims to decongest the city’s roads and improve traffic flow

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has unveiled an ambitious plan to construct 16 flyovers and underpasses across the city at an estimated cost of ₹13,140 crore. The move aims to mitigate Bengaluru’s severe traffic congestion, which ranks among the worst in Asia.

The city’s traffic woes continue despite expanding metro networks and existing flyovers. On average, it takes commuters 28 minutes and 10 seconds to cover just 10 km, with peak-hour speeds dropping to a mere 10 kmph. With over one crore registered vehicles and approximately 1,600 new registrations daily, the situation is worsening.

To address this, BBMP has proposed the ‘Bengaluru Comprehensive Traffic Management Plan,’ which includes tunnel roads, double-decker metro routes, and new flyovers and underpasses. A feasibility study, conducted by a New Delhi-based firm, was submitted in December. The civic body has since invited tenders for a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to advance construction plans.

Proposed flyovers and elevated corridors:

  • Split flyover: MEI Junction (0.5 km)
  • Flyovers: Yeshwanthpur to KR Puram (27 km), Hosur Road (7.4 km), Sirsi Circle to Nayandahalli (3.5 km), Konanakunte Cross to Banashankari (0.9 km), Raghuvanahalli (0.8 km), Anand Rao Circle to KR Circle (1.7 km), Tannery Road to Nagawara Junction (5.5 km), Yelahanka to Kempegowda International Airport (4 km), West of Chord Road to ORR (4.5 km), Hosahalli to Kadabagere Cross (13 km)
  • Underpass extension: Madiwala Traffic Police Junction (0.5 km)
  • Elevated corridors: Old Airport Road to Silk Board (10 km), Nagawara to Bagalur Main Road (15 km), Marenahalli Main Road (10.5 km), ORR to Hennur Main Road (15 km), Hudson Circle to Minerva Circle (2.7 km)

With these projects, BBMP aims to significantly decongest the city’s roads and improve overall traffic flow.
