The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has published a tender for the construction of a statue of former Prime Minister, late Rajiv Gandhi on the Rajiv Gandhi junction in Seshadripuram, Bengaluru. Specifically, the traffic engineering cell of the BBMP has given the invitation for bids for this project. It was published on the 28th of July, 2023. The project would involve the construction and the installation of the statue in the location. The approximate cost for the tender is estimated to be Rs 1.05 crore. Apart from this the “Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) is capped at Rs 2 Lakh.

This has however raised questions on social media. Some citizens have raised the point that the tax paid by Kannadigas has been consistently used for the construction of such memorials. It is being pointed out that several statues of people of the Gandhi family have already been installed in several locations. It is also important to note that the unceremonious outset of former chief minister Veerendra Patil is still in the memories of many in the state.

The last date for filing a nomination for the bid is 31st July, 2023. The date for submitting the bid would be held on 3rd August 2023. It would have to be uploaded by 7th August 2023. They would then be scrutinised by the BBMP on 8th August 2023.
